November… oof! A humbling reminder that the market doesn’t just climb in a straight line. Mid month I was staring at a sea of red, over 10k loss at one point, mostly thanks to crypto swings and an options portfolio that contributed to a huge swing. The allocations weren’t huge, but the volatility? Very BIG!
But! Plenty of good things happened too:
My yearly bonus came in (always appreciated) – I used it to launch a new portfolio + refill my cash reserve after property reno costs.
SMSF is officially live! And yes, I bought in immediately like a boss! No timing the market, just lump sum like the textbooks suggest.
My investment property was rented out within a week which is awesome!
Despite the red month, everything is still on track. Let’s hope December brings a nicer finish to the year.
Superfund – Hostplus
Balance: $248,118 (up $458)
Comment: The big milestone this month was the rollover to SMSF is finalised. The slight balance jump comes from consolidating my wife’s super as well, adding around ~$17k since she didn’t work much previously. Went straight into my target ETF allocation on day one. Data continues to show lump-sum investing usually beats trying to “wait for a dip” or DCA slowly… so fingers crossed the statistics are on my side.
Options Trading – Moomoo
Balance: $3,663 (down $5,209)
Comment: Options truly don’t hold back on bad months. I was holding quite a few calls… and yeah, they got crushed. Not fun, but it is part of the game!
Passive ETF – Fundlater
Balance: $11,427 (down $89)
Debt: $0 (paid off in full in September)
Comment: This account is officially closed. Everything has been consolidated into the new portfolio below which I kicked off this month.
Long-Term ETF – NAB Equity Builder
Balance: $186,872 (down $2,730)
Debt: $99,500
Equity: ~$87,300
Monthly repayment: ~$1,500 (approx. $600 interest, rest equity)
Comment: N/A
Wifey Portfolio – Betashares Direct
Balance: $76,930 (down $1,400)
Comment: The reliable DCA continues — $1,000 every fortnight. Added EETH, IBTC, VHY, GHHF this month to keep everything balanced to my target weights.
Wifey Portfolio – Stake
Balance: $29,824 (down $63)
Comment: Generated $196 in cashflow this month.
School Fee Portfolio – Tiger
Balance: $20,223 (up $223)
Comment: Brand new portfolio launched this month! Funded mostly from the Fundlater consolidation + part of my bonus. The plan is toDCA $2,000 a month and channel any gifts from grandparents into here too.
This pot is for future school fees if the kid goes to private high school. Strategy is simple, all ETFs via a 70/30 core/satellite.
